In the last few years, I have become more earth-conscious. I'm not sure what changed in me, but I'm so glad it did and I wish it would have happened sooner. It was something I worried about as I designed my first Peace of Faith releases. We (people) have an abundance of clothing items. Especially as adults, we kind of hit a growth plateau, per se, and yet, we continue to buy more. Guilty as charged right here.
However, after a little struggle with the question, "Does the world need another t-shirt?" I decided the answer was yes. For the simple fact that it is a t-shirt and as stated in the about section, T-shirts really don't go out of style...do they? Not really. If I had braces (and could fit into it) I'd gladly don my 'Braces are Beautiful' shirt from grade school. My sister bought me a "Soft Kitty Warm Kitty" t-shirt years ago that I still cling to. Even though it's a pop culture reference that one won't get unless you're an avid watcher of the show that made it popular, I still can't let it go. The reason being that the shirt and show brought me joy! And it was a gift from my sister, who also brings me joy.
Someday, all of my t-shirts and sweatshirts will be used to make quilts and various items that are a timeline of some silly, some fun, some serious, and some thoughtful times in my life. It will look like a jumble to most. But to me, it will be a storyline of memorable times throughout my life. I look forward to accomplishing this!
There are many awesome upcycling ideas online. Instead of throwing away your old t-shirts, sweatshirts, jeans, and even sweaters, I encourage you to go online and search for ways to reuse old or no longer used clothing. I will be sharing some of my favorite ideas right here!
